"1st Lt. Mark Shatzer was named IT Officer of the Year by Middle East Region, Civil Air Patrol. Lt Shatzer has developed the squadron website into a useful tool, modernized the squadron IT to the point that it is better than most small businesses, and he has helped many squadron members with their computer problems. Few people know of the many hours that he volunteers to keep the Morgantown Composite Squadron the envy of many squadrons in WV Wing."

Commander's Commendation Award 2007
(West Virginia Wing, Civil Air Patrol)

"Issued and presented by the West Virginia Wing Commander, this Commander's Commendation Award was presented to 1st Lt. Mark Shatzer for outstanding duty performance. The award was presented for above the call of duty performance for the innovation, development, design and support of the WV Wing Safety website. He provided a service and technology that the governing IT support team was not equipped to manage."

Drug Demand Reduction Officer of the Year 2007
(West Virginia Wing, Civil Air Patrol)

"1st Lt. Mark Shatzer was named DDR Officer of the Year by the West Virginia Wing, Civil Air Patrol. He developed the Drug Demand Reduction website which offers information, resources, activities and suggestions to help keep our communities drug free. He is also responsible for the idea of a DDR podcast as a community service to the Morgantown area and beyond. The podcast is called Drug Demand Reduction Over Internet Protocol (or DDROIP)."
